Dear BLET Members,
Open Enrollment for your Union’s Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance with AD&D is OPEN NOW!! All BLET members are encouraged to act early. If you do nothing, you will not be covered when open enrollment ends. Waiting until the last day of enrollment can be risky, so we urge you to start reviewing your options and enroll in the income protection benefits that best meet the needs of you and/or your family. Remember, only during open enrollment can you enroll with NO MEDICAL QUESTIONS and be GUARANTEED APPROVED for coverage. Additionally, disability policies administered by Union One have special provisions that help BLET members working as Engineers and Conductors receive benefits if/when they lose certifications or licenses for medical reasons. All benefits are paid tax-free and do not need to be paid back if you receive a FELA award or settlement.
Open enrollment only happens once a year, and this is your opportunity to ensure you have the best protection for the year ahead. Considering the unique risks associated with working on the railroad—such as carrier medical qualifications, potential injuries, or illnesses, or waiting on a long FELA case—having comprehensive coverage is crucial.
It’s important to note that over 90% of foreclosures among railroad employees result from an unexpected sickness or injury. By acting now, you can secure the coverage you need and gain peace of mind knowing you are protected against unexpected events.
